Greenwaldt Farms Become Water Quality Certified

Greenwaldt Farms Become Water Quality Certified

September 20, 2019 by

Congratulations to Terry Greenwaldt and to his son, Jason Greenwaldt! Because of their decisions to practice conservation on their land, the Greenwaldt farms are now Water Quality Certified in Minnesota’s Ag Water Quality Certification Program (MAWQCP).

Terry’s farms are adjacent to West Leaf Lake, and Terry has done much to protect the its water, including building 2 grade stabilization structures (dams) and maintaining grassed drainageways. These conservation practices slow and filter runoff water before it reaches the lake. Terry also practices spring conservation tillage and does careful nutrient, pest, and irrigation management. He also has established tree plantings areas to protect the soil.

Jason’s farm is just south of Aldrich and is all in pasture and hay production; as a result, soil erosion and water runoff rates are very low. Jason practices careful grazing management and has also installed a solar-powered watering system which provides water to his cow-calf herd and aids in protecting water quality.

Many thanks to Terry and Jason Greenwaldt for their efforts to protect our water and soil resources!
