Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS)
Aquatic invasive species (AIS) are aquatic organisms that invade ecosystems beyond their natural, historic range. Their presence may harm native ecosystems or commercial, agricultural, or recreational activities in systems in which they are introduced.
The East Otter Tail SWCD works together with the Otter Tail County Aquatic Invasive Species Task Force to prevent the introduction and spread of AIS in Otter Tail County lakes and streams. Aquatic invasive species present in Minnesota include:
- zebra mussels
- Eurasian watermilfoil
- spiny waterflea
- faucet snails
- curly-leaf pondweed
